Program Overview

The DYF Physicians Exchange and Clerkship on Diabetes is a specialized certification program designed to equip physicians with advanced knowledge and skills in the management and treatment of diabetes. This program blends in-person and virtual training modules, offering participants an immersive learning experience in diverse healthcare settings across the USA and Nepal.

Challenges in Medical Education for Diabetic Super-Specialization

  • Limited Specialized Training: Nepal lacks sufficient structured programs focusing on comprehensive diabetes management, leading to inadequate expertise among physicians.
  • Lack of Access to Advanced Protocols: Physicians often lack exposure to cutting-edge research, precision medicine, and evidence-based treatment approaches.
  • Gaps in Bio-Social Understanding: Diabetes is influenced by genetic, social, and lifestyle factors, requiring a holistic treatment approach that is often missing in traditional medical curricula.
  • Insufficient Research and Innovation: Limited research opportunities in Nepal restrict physicians from contributing to global advancements in diabetes care.
  • Patient-Centered Approach: The focus in Nepal remains on symptom management rather than preventive, functional, and precision medicine techniques that improve long-term outcomes.
  • Integration of Functional and Precision Medicine: The role of nutrition, genetics, and lifestyle in diabetes care is often overlooked in standard medical training.

How This Program Addresses These Challenges

  • Providing Hands-On Training: Rotations at prestigious institutions in the USA and Nepal offer practical experience in advanced diabetes care.
  • Bringing Evidence-Based Practices: Exposure to global best practices and modern treatment protocols to enhance care in Nepal.
  • Encouraging Research & Innovation: Fostering a research-oriented approach that enables physicians to contribute to advancements in diabetes care.
  • Integrating Bio-Social and Precision Medicine: Emphasizing social determinants, lifestyle medicine, and precision treatments.
  • Focusing on Functional Medicine & Patient-Centered Care: Training on nutrition, wellness, and individualized treatment plans for improved patient outcomes.
